Jim “Jimbo” Guest, He spent the first years of his music career playing rock and roll. He got a break by joining up with the Crystals, like so many others they were a one hit wonder. He then left rock music to start up a country band in Waco, TX. He landed a job with the late Mel Street (Borrowed Angel). He received a call from Mercury Records and was asked to join a band called Southern Comfort. The band was most famous for being Reba McEntire’s road band through her Mercury years. After 11 years with Reba, he then went on to work with RCA records, Sylvia (Drifter, Snap Shot) and Fiddlin’ Frenchie Burk until 1988. After coming out of retirement from being on the road, he started the SantaFe band in Texas in 1991 and led that band for almost 18 years.
He moved to Missouri for a couple of years to help his wife, Lyn with some family matters. He now lives and works in Waco and is here to stay, “This is my home”. Again he could not go with out playing the country music that he loves so much. Before he came “home” he called his good friend, Gordon Collier, to see if he might have a “place” for him in his band. Gordon just asked “when ya gonna be here, we play next weekend?”
